Sabinus, widely known by his stage names Oga Sabinus and Mr Funny, is a Nigerian comedian, actor, and content creator whose viral online skits have made him one of the most recognisable comic personalities in contemporary Nigerian entertainment.
Born Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu on January 30, 1995, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, he was known as the class jester throughout his primary and secondary education. He went on to study Linguistics and Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt, a background that later informed the sharp comic timing and wordplay that define his skits.
Sabinus began creating comedy content in 2015 while still based in Port Harcourt, gradually building an audience before relocating to Lagos in 2019, where he focused fully on digital comedy. His breakout moment came with skits built around his catchphrase ‘Something Hoodge,’ delivered in his now-signature royal blue shirt and black trousers, a visual identity instantly recognisable to millions of followers across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
His comedic success opened the door to Nollywood, where he has appeared in films including Who Stole Baba’s Money alongside Toyin Abraham, as well as Billionaire’s Bride and Man of War, sharing the screen with established stars such as Zubby Michael and Regina Daniels. He has cited Nollywood veterans John Okafor (Mr Ibu), Charles Inojie, and Nkem Owoh as key influences on his comedic style.
Sabinus has won multiple honours, including the Best Online Social Content Creator award at the 8th AMVCAs, and has expanded into live comedy tours across Nigeria and internationally. In 2022, he took legal action against companies he accused of using his trademarked catchphrase without authorisation, underscoring his standing as a commercially significant figure in Nigeria’s digital entertainment economy.
