Naziru M Ahmad, also known by his honorific title Sarkin Waka, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actor whose royal-themed music and ceremonial recognition have made him one of the most respected figures in Hausa music.
Born on 4 September 1986 in Kano, Nigeria, Naziru M Ahmad began singing at a young age but launched his career officially in 2000. Over the years, he built a catalogue that now spans more than 300 songs, ranging from royal praise tracks to socially reflective compositions.
In December 2018, Naziru was formally turbaned as Sarkin Wakan Sarkin Kano, meaning Chief Singer of the Emir of Kano, a rare honour that reflects his standing within Hausa royal and cultural institutions. Some of his best-known songs include “Musa Jidda,” “Sabon Sarki,” “Mati Da Lado” and “Sai Mun Bata Wuta,” the latter released in 2022.
Beyond his royal praise-singing tradition, Naziru M Ahmad has also lent his voice to Nigeria’s political space, performing for a number of influential political figures over the years, a role that has further expanded his profile and financial standing within the Kannywood entertainment ecosystem. He has also collaborated with fellow Hausa stars including Nazifi Asnanic and Fati Niger.
With a career built on both artistry and cultural ceremony, Naziru M Ahmad, or Sarkin Waka, continues to be regarded as one of the most influential and financially successful musicians in the Kannywood industry.
