Early Life
Jideofor Kenechukwu Achufusi, known professionally as Jide Kene Achufusi or Swanky JKA, was born on 17 October 1991 in Enugu State, Nigeria, though he hails from Anambra State. He completed his primary and secondary education in Enugu, attending a Watchman-owned secondary school. He went on to study at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), earning a degree in Geology and Geography, a field with little connection to the acting career that would follow.
Career
Jide Kene began his entertainment career as a model, competing in the Mr Ideal Nigeria pageant in 2013 and finishing sixth among 40 finalists. That exposure gave him the confidence to transition into acting, and he started out playing supporting roles in Enugu-based Nollywood productions including ‘Poka Messiah,’ ‘Black Rose,’ ‘Pretty Little Thing,’ ‘Ofu Obi’ and ‘A Lonely Lane,’ working with prolific director Ernest Obi in over ten films before wider recognition came.
His breakthrough arrived in 2019 with the role of Nnamdi Okeke in ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free,’ a performance that earned him a Best Actor nomination and the Trailblazer Award at the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. He followed that with the role of Chidi in ‘Kambili: The Whole 30 Yards.’ He has since won Best Actor in a Leading Role and Revelation of the Year at the Best of Nollywood Awards, as well as The Future Awards Africa Prize for Acting. In 2025, he expanded into production, launching his debut TV series ‘City of Dreams’ as executive producer, a project showcasing the culture and modern urban life of his home state, Enugu.
Personal Life
Jide Kene Achufusi began his acting journey in Enugu before relocating to Lagos to pursue mainstream Nollywood opportunities, a path that mirrors his transformation from a little-known Enugu-based actor into one of the industry’s most recognisable new-generation leading men.
With a breakout role that helped define one of Nollywood’s biggest box office successes and a growing career now extending into production, Jide Kene Achufusi remains one of the most closely watched actors of his generation.
