Early Life

Daniel Etiese Benson, known professionally as BNXN, was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and hails from Akwa Ibom State. He grew up in Gbagada before moving to Ogun State with his family.

As a child, he was introduced to Afropop music by Nigerian artist 2Baba, and he credits Burna Boy as a major influence and inspiration for his journey into the music industry.

Career

On October 27, 2021, BNXN released his highly anticipated extended play, Sorry I’m Late, under the management of T.Y.E/EMPIRE. The project featured collaborations with Nigerian Highlife duo The Cavemen and production from Steph, Perlz, Denzl, Timi Jay, and Rexxie.

It was mixed and mastered by Vtek and Poppil. Motolani Alake of Pulse Nigeria described the EP as a reflection of “confidence, wins, and ‘comfort’.” To promote the release, BNXN performed his first show in London on November 30, kicking off his Sorry I’m Late tour.

On December 22, 2021, he headlined his first sold-out concert in Lagos, held at the Balmoral Convention Centre. This marked his debut performance in the city.

In 2022, BNXN rebranded, officially changing his name to avoid confusion with Buju Banton and to create a more distinct identity.

In March 2022, he collaborated with Pheelz on the hit single “Finesse,” which peaked at number 52 on the UK Official Singles Chart. That July, he joined British rapper Dave on Jae5’s “Propeller,” which became BNXN’s first Top 40 hit in the UK, debuting at number 38.

On August 24, 2022, BNXN released the EP Bad Since ’97, featuring top Afrobeats stars like Wizkid, Olamide, and Wande Coal. The EP garnered significant attention, and just days later, on September 4, BNXN won the prestigious Headies 2022 Next Rated award at the ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia.

BNXN’s debut album, Sincerely, Benson, dropped on October 4, 2023, boasting 15 tracks and guest appearances from artists like Headie One and Popcaan. In 2024, BNXN shocked fans by releasing a joint album with Ruger, despite their previous feud.
