Early Life
Asake studied Theatre and Dramatic Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University. His music career gained momentum in 2022 when he released the single “Mr. Money,” followed by a remix featuring Zlatan and Peruzzi.
In February 2022, Olamide, a fellow Nigerian artist, signed Asake to his YBNL Records label. That same month, Asake released his debut extended play, Ololade, which featured his breakthrough song “Omo Ope” with Olamide and the hit single “Sungba.”
Career And Achievements
Asake released his debut studio album, Mr. Money with the Vibe, on September 8, 2022, which was supported by singles such as “Terminator” and “Peace Be Unto You.” The album received widespread acclaim and performed well globally, debuting at number 66 on the Billboard 200.
In December 2022, Asake was named “Artiste of the Year” by Audiomack after the album garnered over 330 million streams. He also released successful singles like “Yoga” in January 2023 and “2:30” in April.
In June 2023, He dropped his second studio album, Work of Art, which debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200 and topped the charts in multiple countries.
The album was reported as Nigeria’s most-streamed album of 2023 and was certified with a BRIT silver plaque. In 2024, Asake released his third album, Lungu Boy, which broke records for global streams and had five tracks in the top 10 of Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 100.
He also had the second track, “MMS” featuring Wizkid, break the record for most first-day streams in Spotify Nigeria.
On February 12, 2025, Asake launched his independent label, Giran Republic, marking his departure from YBNL Nation after rumors surfaced about his exit. His single “Why Love” officially signified his move.
Asake has continued to make history with his global achievements, including headlining and selling out concerts at the New York City Barclays Center in September 2023, and at the O2 Arena in London in August 2023.
He also appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in February 2024, performing to a broader American audience.
