Ladipo is a dynamic Nigerian rapper and musician. On February 28, 2017, he signed a record deal with Mavin Records, propelling his career to new heights.
He first gained significant attention with his feature on Show Dem Camp’s (SDC) track “Feel Alright.” In March 2019, Ladipoe released the single “Jaiye,” and followed up with the hit song “Know You,” featuring Nigerian singer Simi.
Early Life and Education
Ladipoe was born and raised in Lagos on April 25, 1985. He pursued his higher education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, majoring in Biology and Chemistry.
It was during his time at university that his passion for music ignited, leading him to co-found the group Lyrically Equipped with friends Jeffrey and Kurt. In 2017, he signed with Mavin Records, thanks to the vision of Don Jazzy.
Career
Ladipoe made history as the first rapper to be signed to Mavin Records after the label’s rebranding in 2012. His first single under the label, “Man Already,” produced by Altims, marked the beginning of his musical journey with Mavin. Drawing inspiration from Slum Village, Lupe Fiasco, and Little Brother, Poe quickly carved out a distinct sound in the Nigerian music scene.
In 2021, Ladipoe released the massively popular single “Feeling,” featuring Bnxn. The track topped the TurnTable Top 50 chart three times and became a club anthem, not just in Nigeria but also in South Africa.
He performed “Feeling” during the opening show of the sixth season of Big Brother Naija, further solidifying the song’s widespread appeal.
Reflecting on his journey in November 2021, Ladipoe shared with The Guardian Nigeria how he was told that rap had lost its relevance in Nigeria when he first started. But with the release of “Feeling,” a track he featured Bnxn on, he proved his critics wrong. Ladipoe credits much of his success to his unwavering faith and prayers.
