Portable Sentenced to Three Months in Prison for Assaulting Police Officer
Controversial Nigerian street-hop artist, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by the Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo Local Government Area. The sentence follows his conviction on two counts: assault and obstructing police officers from performing their lawful duties.
The case stems from an incident on November 18, 2022, in Okeosa, Ilogbo. Portable reportedly assaulted Inspector Osimosu Emmanuel while resisting arrest. He and several unnamed accomplices also obstructed officers who came to serve him an arrest warrant. According to court records, he additionally stole various pieces of musical equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a Studio 2 interface cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, provided evidence supporting the charges, citing violations under Sections 351, 384, and 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found Portable guilty on two counts. He sentenced him to one month’s imprisonment with an option of a ₦10,000 fine for assault. For resisting arrest, Portable received a two-month sentence, also with a ₦20,000 fine alternative.
This totals three months in prison with the possibility of avoiding jail time by paying a ₦30,000 fine. The court dismissed the third charge related to equipment theft due to lack of sufficient evidence.
This sentencing marks another chapter in the controversial public life of the self-proclaimed “Wahala Musician.”
