The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has suspended Nollywood actress and producer Shirley Igwe indefinitely after she reportedly assaulted a crew member during filming in Lagos.
According to eyewitnesses, Igwe slapped the crew member during a heated argument on set. The AGN quickly launched an investigation into the incident and concluded that her actions violated the professional conduct expected from its members.
In a letter dated July 21, AGN President Emeka Rollas confirmed the suspension. He stated that Igwe’s behavior undermined the guild’s code of ethics and brought disrepute to the profession.
“We reviewed the reports, and Shirley Igwe clearly acted in a manner that discredits the profession,” the letter read. “Her violent behavior and lack of discipline go against everything we stand for.”
The AGN not only issued the suspension but also instructed its members to avoid working with Igwe on any production until further notice.
By taking this decisive action, the guild reinforced its commitment to upholding discipline and professionalism within the Nigerian film industry. It also sent a clear message to other actors that misconduct will not go unpunished.
With this suspension, Igwe stands barred from AGN-sanctioned projects until the guild completes a full review or decides on further action.
