Early Life
Fido, born Awosika Olayemi Josiah on September 21, 1997, in Matogun, Ogun State, Nigeria, grew up surrounded by rhythm and culture. From a young age, he was raised by his mother and discovered his love for music early in life. For instance, singing in his church choir helped him nurture his voice and build confidence as a performer. Moreover, this early experience laid the foundation for his journey as a recording artist.
As he grew up in a small town, Fido drew inspiration from Afrobeats icons like Olamide and Kizz Daniel, whose success stories motivated him to dream big. In addition, he admired Fela Anikulapo Kuti, whose music taught him the power of lyrics as tools for social expression and change.
Career
In 2019, Fido took a bold step toward his dream by enrolling at the PEFTI Film Institute, where he learned music production and performance techniques. Consequently, this training refined his artistry and prepared him for the professional music industry.
After completing his studies, Fido’s career began to take shape when he joined Inner Circle, a platform that supports upcoming artists. Furthermore, he developed his signature sound a fusion of Afrobeats, trap, R&B, and dancehall which he proudly calls Afrofusion.
Then, in August 2024, Fido released his debut single, “Awolowo,” a vibrant track that resonated deeply with listeners. As a result, the song’s infectious rhythm and powerful message earned critical acclaim, climbing the Nigerian Apple Music charts and gaining over 22,000 Shazams.
Additionally, as an independent artist, Fido handles his own production and promotion, showcasing both his creativity and resilience. Therefore, his dedication and originality continue to earn him recognition as one of Nigeria’s most promising Afrofusion talents.
Fido represents a new wave of independent Nigerian artists blending authenticity with innovation.
