Early Life

Small Doctor was born Adekunle Temitope on 27 May 1996 in Dopemu, Lagos State, Nigeria, though he hails from Ilaje in Ondo State. He grew up in a family of six, with both parents working as teachers, an upbringing that inspired the nickname ‘Omo Iya Teacher’ (son of a teacher) that fans still use for him today. He attended Aina Orosan Nursery and Primary School before proceeding to Oniwaya Secondary School in Dopemu, where he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate. He briefly attended the University of Lagos before dropping out to pursue music full time.

Career

Small Doctor developed an interest in music from childhood, singing gospel songs around the house and in church, where his mother and brother were also part of the choir. He recorded his first track, ‘E Ma Kanramo Mi,’ in 2003, before releasing a series of freestyles and mixtapes that circulated on the streets and online. A mixtape released in 2012 caught the attention of DJ Real of Eko FM, who gave him his first major break in the industry.

On 27 July 2015, Small Doctor released his debut studio album, ‘Street Ambassador,’ featuring collaborations with Fuji legend Pasuma, Dre San and Young Legxy, and spawning hit singles including ‘Mosquito Killer,’ ‘Gbagaun’ and ‘Anobi.’ He also released a second album the same year, ‘Omo Iya Teacher,’ featuring Mz Kiss, Olamide, Seriki and Qdot. His single ‘Penalty’ became one of his most celebrated records, winning the Best Street Hop award at The Headies in 2018.

In 2018, Small Doctor launched his first major tour, the ‘Omo Better Concert,’ at the 20,000-seat Agege Stadium in Lagos, featuring performers including Mayorkun, Vector, Mr Real and Terry Apala. The concert returned for a bigger second edition in 2019, drawing stars including Lyta, Pasuma and Seriki, and selling out completely. He has also performed internationally, including a show at O2 Academy Islington in London in 2018. He is known within the industry as the “Street King” for his energetic, street-rooted sound, and is currently signed to RealBeat Planet Entertainment.

Personal Life

Small Doctor is a husband and father; his children include his son, Abdul-Sodeeq Temitopeoluwa Alao. He has relocated his family to Canada, choosing to keep them away from the public spotlight that comes with his career while he continues to work and perform in Nigeria.

With a catalogue built on energetic Fuji-infused street-pop and a reputation for electric live shows, Small Doctor remains one of the most recognisable names in Nigeria’s street-hop scene.
