Early Life
Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, professionally known as Spyro, was born on October 1, 1990, in Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up in Lagos and began his education at New Mainland Children School before proceeding to Model College, Meiran.
He later earned a degree from the University of Ibadan. From a young age, Spyro nurtured a passion for music, singing in the church choir and drawing influence from American R&B stars like Usher and Joe.
Career
Spyro started his professional music journey in 2017 as an independent artist and remains unsigned under any major label, operating under TAP Music Entertainment. Like many rising talents, his early years were challenging, and he relied on support from friends to survive while building his career.
His breakthrough came in 2022 with the hit single “Billing,” which gained notable traction across streaming platforms. Later that year, he released “Who is Your Guy?” a track that became a cultural anthem and dominated music charts across Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Gambia. The remix featuring Tiwa Savage, released in March 2023, catapulted him to continental fame, amassing over 150 million views on YouTube.
The track earned him accolades including “Best Collaboration” at the 2023 Headies Awards and AFRIMMA. He also received nominations for “Afrobeats Single of the Year” and “Next Rated Artist.” His rising popularity led to the announcement of a major UK and Europe tour, spanning over 30 cities.
Spyro’s journey from obscurity to stardom is a testament to resilience, talent, and consistency. He continues to solidify his presence in the Afrobeats scene with timeless melodies and authentic storytelling.
