Early Life

Kelechi Augustine Miles, known as Tekno, hails from Ivo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, located in southeastern Nigeria. Born in Bauchi State, Tekno grew up in a family of six, which included five boys and one girl. Due to his father’s profession in the Nigerian Army, he lived in various parts of the country, including Nasarawa State, Kaduna (the capital of Kaduna State), and Abuja (the federal capital territory).

At the age of 8, He developed an early interest in music and was enrolled in a music school where he learned to play the piano and guitar. His musical talent flourished as he honed his skills. Tekno is also the elder brother of another Nigerian musical act, Spotless, further showcasing the family’s connection to the music industry.

Personal Life

In May 2018, He became a father to a baby girl. In 2020, he announced that he had moved to the United States, a decision influenced by the proposal in the Nigerian National Assembly to change the country’s name to UAR, which stood for United African Republic or United Alkebulan Republic.

He revealed that he was battling acid reflux, a condition that had worsened and impacted his vocal cords In 2017. As a result, he had to undergo surgery to address the issue.

Career

Tekno Miles began his career with K-Money Entertainment, releasing his breakout single “Holiday” featuring Davido. The song gained massive airplay, marking his early success.

In 2012, Tekno caught the attention of comedian Julius Agwu after performing a remix of Ice Prince’s “Oleku.” He met Iyanya and Ubi Franklin at the same event, which led to his move to Lagos to further his music career.

On October 5, 2013, Tekno signed with Made Men Music Group (MMMG), releasing hits like “Dance” and “Anything.” These earned him a nomination for “Best New Act of the Year” at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. In June 2015, he released “Duro,” which gained popularity both in Africa and the US. The remix featuring Phyno and Flavour came out in November 2015.

In 2016, Tekno gained international recognition when Elton John played “Diana” on his Rocket Hour radio show. He also collaborated with DJ Cuppy on “Green Light” in 2017 and worked with Ciara on “Freak Me” in 2018.

Tekno produced “Won’t Be Late” by Swae Lee featuring Drake and was featured on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift album.

In 2022, he appeared on Kizz Daniel’s “Buga,” which became the most Shazamed song of the year. Davido also credited Tekno for reviving his career.

In 2023, Tekno released “Wayo,” marking the start of a new musical era under his partnership with Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa, where he is also an investor and partner.
