Early Life
WurlD, born Sadiq Onifade on January 2, 1987, grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. As a teenager, he relocated to the United States, where he pursued secondary education and studied computer science at Georgia State University. During his time in college, he developed a passion for music and performance, setting the foundation for his future in the industry.
Career
WurlD began his professional journey in 2012 with the release of his debut single “Beyond Our Dreams” from his EP Evolution. As the project gained traction, SESAC hosted a private listening session at their Atlanta office to preview his work. By early 2013, WurlD collaborated with R&B star Mario, contributing as a songwriter for upcoming projects.
He premiered the music video for his single “Alive” in May 2013, produced by Hood Beatz. That same year, WurlD featured in the video for “Beautiful Girls” by BK Brasco, signed to Timbaland’s label.
In 2016, he released “Show You Off,” an Afro-soul collaboration with Walshy Fire of Major Lazer and producer Shizzi. Later that year, he dropped “Better Days” with Sir Felix, which became the official anthem for DelfSail 2016.
WurlD gained further recognition in 2019 when he co-wrote Davido’s hit single “Blow My Mind” featuring Chris Brown. The track, produced by Shizzi, became an international success, further cementing WurlD’s place as a respected artist and songwriter on the global stage.
WurlD continues to shape the Afro-fusion genre by blending African rhythms with global sounds.
