Early Life

Clarion Chukwurah, born Clara Nneka Oluwatoyin Folashade Chukwurah on 24 July 1964, hails from Anambra State, Nigeria. She grew up as the only daughter in a family of four. Chukwurah began her early education in Lagos, where she attended nursery and primary school. She continued her secondary education at Queen of the Rosary College in Onitsha. With a passion for performance, she studied acting and speech at the Department of Dramatic Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University.

Career

Chukwurah launched her acting career in 1980. Her breakthrough came when she took on a prominent role in the television soap opera Mirror in the Sun, which brought her into the limelight. In 1982, she made history by becoming the first Nigerian actress to win the Best Actress award at the FESPACO film festival in Burkina Faso. Throughout her career, she took on diverse roles that showcased her versatility and depth as a performer.

In addition to her work on screen, Chukwurah earned recognition for her humanitarian contributions. Her efforts across the African continent led to her appointment as a United Nations peace ambassador. She has used her platform to advocate for social causes and community development.

Clarion Chukwurah is the mother of renowned music video director Clarence Peters, whom she had with legendary Juju musician Sir Shina Peters. Over the years, she experienced different chapters in her personal life. She married Tunde Abiola, the younger brother of the late MKO Abiola, and later Femi Odeneye. In 2016, she entered her third marriage with Anthony Boyd and embraced the faith of Jehovah’s Witnesses through him.
