Early Life

Kate Henshaw grew up in Cross River State, Nigeria, as the eldest of four children. She completed her primary education at St. Mary Private School in Lagos and later attended the Federal Government Girls’ College in Calabar for secondary school.

After spending a year at the University of Calabar studying remedial courses, she pursued a degree in Medical Microbiology at the School of Medical Laboratory Science at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

She worked at the Bauchi State General Hospital before transitioning into acting. Henshaw also worked as a model, featuring in several commercials, including an advert for Shield Deodorant.

Career And Achievements

Kate Henshaw launched her acting career in 1993 when she auditioned for and secured the lead role in When the Sun Sets, making her Nollywood debut. Since then, she has appeared in over 45 Nollywood films and established herself as one of the industry’s top actresses. In 2008, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her powerful performance in Stronger than Pain. A decade later, in 2018, she earned another nomination for the same award for her role in Roti.

In 2014, Henshaw declared her intention to run for office to represent the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal constituency under the People’s Democratic Party. Although she lost the party primary, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State appointed her as Special Adviser Liaison Lagos in 2015.

Henshaw expanded her public influence by becoming a brand ambassador in 2012 for UK-based Blessing Perfumes and for Onga Seasoning, produced by Promasidor Nigeria Limited. In 2013, she teamed up with Banky W to represent Samsung Mobile as a brand ambassador. She joined the panel of judges for CBS’s The World’s Best in 2019 and previously served as a judge on Nigeria’s Got Talent. She also represented the telecommunications giant Glo as a brand ambassador.

In her personal life, Henshaw married British-born Roderick James Nuttall in 1999, and they have one child. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2011.
