Early Life

Afeez Oyetoro was born on 20 August 1963 in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, southwestern Nigeria. He grew up in a large family as the fifth of eight children. At age nine, he left his village to live with his uncle in Iseyin, adapting to a middle-class lifestyle under his uncle’s care. Oyetoro also earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Theatre Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Ibadan, respectively. He further advanced his studies by obtaining a doctorate from the University of Ibadan.

Career

In 2013, Afeez Oyetoro captured national attention when he starred as the lead in a popular MTN commercial promoting the Number Porting feature. He went on to feature in major Nollywood hits like The Wedding Party (2016) and Ojukokoro (Greed), further cementing his place in the industry. In 2022, his peers elected him as the vice president of the Golden Movie Ambassadors Association of Nigeria (TGMAAN), recognizing his contributions to Nigerian cinema.

Oyetoro has also earned numerous award nominations over the years. These include Best Comic Actor (English) at the People Movie Awards, Best Actor in Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, Best Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, and Most Promising Comic Actor at the Best of Nollywood Awards.

He shares a strong family bond with his wife, Olaide Oyetoro, and their three children: sons Abdullah and Mumin, and daughter Rodiat. Oyetoro often speaks about the profound impact his parents had on his life. His mother passed away at 92 in 2019, while his father lived to 98, instilling strong values in him.

Known for his light complexion and signature diastema, Oyetoro confidently embraced nicknames like “Albino,” turning what some saw as a difference into a personal and professional strength. His unique appearance and charismatic personality continue to endear him to audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
