September has handed Nigerian audiences a properly stacked month, with theatrical debuts, streaming premieres and a couple of returning favourites arriving across the next few weeks. Comedy, crime, romance and one long-awaited character adaptation are all in the mix.
A Mama Deola Wedding Story
Folagade Banks’ beloved skit character finally makes the jump to a full film. A Mama Deola Wedding Story centres on Demilola’s wedding to Femi, with Omowunmi Dada and Rotimi Salami as the couple. The supporting cast pulls in Shaffy Bello, Bukky Wright, Iya Rainbow, Erica Nlewedim and Toyin Adegbola. Femi Adebayo directs, with Banks producing. It streams on Kava.
Confusion Na Wa
Kenneth Gyang’s dark comedy follows strangers whose lives collide over 24 hours after a lost phone and a blackmail attempt. Ramsey Nouah, OC Ukeje, Ali Nuhu and Tunde Aladese lead the cast. Produced by Gyang and Tom Rowlands-Rees, it landed on Kava from September 3.
Ordinary People
Moses Inwang’s crime thriller series premiered on Netflix from September 4 with one of the deepest ensembles of the month: Ramsey Nouah, Adunni Ade, Chidi Mokeme, Michelle Dede, Lasisi Elenu, Sharon Ooja, Jackie Appiah, Uche Montana, Eddy Watson, Shawn Faqua and Gbenga Titiloye.

Tola Odunsi’s crime drama opens in cinemas on September 11 and follows Ndubuisi Madueke, a young man drawn into cybercrime. Stan Nze, Sola Sobowale, Deyemi Okanlawon and Bisola Aiyeola star.
One Gidi Night
Also landing in cinemas nationwide on September 11 is One Gidi Night, a neo-noir thriller unfolding over a single desperate night in Lagos, where a good man is pushed into impossible choices simply to survive. Written, directed and produced by James Abinibi, it stars Gabriel Afolayan, Uzor Arukwe, Wumi Toriola, Ibrahim Yekini, Idia Aisien and Kelvin Ikeduba, with FilmOne Entertainment distributing.
Also In The Mix
Kayode Kasum’s 2024 comedy drama Ajosepo arrives on streaming this month after its cinema run, with Timini Egbuson, Mike Afolarin, Tomike Adeoye, Mercy Aigbe and Toyin Abraham. Edward Uka’s historical epic Nne Mgbafor, built around the warrior traditions of Ohafia in Abia State, also features in the month’s slate.
Between a skit character’s big-screen debut, two thrillers opening on the same day and a Netflix ensemble series, September is one of the busier months Nigerian screens have seen this year.
