Early Life

Genoveva Kenechukwu Umeh, born on May 8, 1995, is a British–Nigerian actress celebrated for her compelling performances in film and television. She was born in Enugu, Nigeria, to a computer engineer father and a nurse mother. Genoveva lived in Enugu until age 12, completing her primary education there before moving with her family to the United Kingdom in 2006. She finished her secondary and A-level education in London and discovered her passion for acting while attending drama school part-time. Genoveva also earned an honors degree in Law (LLB) from the University of Surrey.

Career

Genoveva Umeh relocated to Lagos in 2018 to fully commit to her acting career. She wrote and starred in a one-woman stage play titled HOME, which performed at the Lagos Fringe Festival and later in South Africa. She also appeared in stage productions addressing social issues such as substance abuse among teenagers.

Her first lead role came with the drama A Tune Away (2020), which earned her a Best Actress nomination at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. She started on-screen with a role in Love is War (2019), later featured on Netflix. She gained further recognition in One Lagos Night (2021), portraying Anita, and starred in the BAFTA-nominated short film Lizard.

Genoveva trained at EbonyLife Creative Academy and appeared in several short films, including Monitoring Spirits, which won her a Best Supporting Actress award. Her standout performance in the Netflix crime thriller Blood Sisters brought her international acclaim. She also starred as Zina in the young adult series Far From Home and led in Breath of Life, winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2024 AMVCA.
